Serving up a healthy portion of hospitality is really important for many of us regardless of our church tradition. But COVID restrictions and lock-downs across various parts of the UK have made it really hard to show this in what can quite easily become a culture of fear and cold, heartless expression. So what's the fix?
Have you thought about serving up takeaway coffee in your church after your service at this time of year? What better way to fostering and model ideas of hospitality by sending out your church family with a warming cup of coffee after the service? It'll start them thinking of what they could do in their own community ~ dropping off small gifts to neighbours, hosting a doorstep Christmas party or making some mince pies for the street: the point is to foster a culture of hospitality. As I write I am listening to the incredible songs by Chris Tomlin that celebrates how good it is living in the life and resurrection of Jesus! This is a great song, built on a great classic expressing the bubbling up of the joy that overflows from deep inside when we start to again think about the joy and peace that comes living in the light of Jesus.
Be happy, be joyful, be jubilant in the amazing peace and satisfaction we find in Jesus. This is not it, the now is not the future, we have a hope and a fantastic assurance that an everlasting much greater is yet to come! Happy Advent! May you find His peace, joy and satisfaction at this special time of year!
May your Advent be a fantastic time, full of the joy of Jesus! Merry Christmas!
